Could Hollywood's latest coupling be just for show? (Impossible, I know.)

Page Six reports that while dining at Nobu in Miami earlier this week, the pair "barely spoke" to each other and John Mayer "was extremely quiet and didn't speak a lot."

Jessica Simpson, meanwhile, engaged in "a lot of puppy-dog looks and twirled and twisted her hair."

When paparazzi cameras started flashing, however, they happily engaged in a romantic hand hold -- but not before Jess left John's side for over 20 minutes to primp like the show dog that she is.
