Sir Paul McCartney will be surrounded by 5,000 security guards when he performs in Israel tonight (25.09.08).

The £1.5 million security cordon - consisting of police, agents from Britain's MI6 and members of Israel's Mossad intelligence organisation - will protect the former Beatle during his concert in Tel Aviv after Muslim extremists issued death threats against him.

A source said: "No one is taking anything for granted. The level of security is more than we've ever seen. Everything is being done to ensure that this passes without incident."

The 66-year-old musician is staying in the city's plush Dan Hotel with girlfriend Nancy Shevell - and 21 suites surrounding his room have also been booked at a cost of £70,000 to ensure no one can get close to him.

The source added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Only security and a handful of Paul's entourage will be near him. Everything is tailored to ensure he is 100 per cent safe."

Paul and Nancy arrived in Israel yesterday (24.09.08) and were surrounded by security from the moment they left their plane.

A row has allegedly broken out between Sir Paul McCartney and ex-wife Heather Mills after she heard he wanted to buy her £3million home in Robertsbridge.

As reported in the national press this week she banned her ex-husband from buying her home, even though she's put it up for sale.

She bought the property in 2006 following her split from the former Beatle.

A source told The People newspaper:

"She has always felt it wasn't quite right for her.

"Heather put it on the market three weeks ago but she didn't initially let Paul know what she was planning.

"When he found out he told her he wanted to buy it off her because their daughter Bea loves it there. But she was having none of it and said, 'You're trying to take my house.'

"Heather knows Paul is just trying to be nice by offering to buy the house from her. But it seems she won't sell to him out of spite."

The source added that Heather also accused Paul of encouraging her former PR advisor Michele Elyzabeth to speak out about her conduct during their divorce.

The source told the national Sunday newspaper: "Paul has told Heather she needs to see a psychiatrist which made her even more furious.

"She told him he wasn't allowed to see Bea, because she's an evil whore saying he's not fit enough to be her dad because he encourages people to sell stories slagging off her mum."

The couple share legal custody of their four-year-old daughter.

Paul McCartney Going Cross Country

Paul McCartney is currently fulfilling a lifelong dream of driving across the United States on the old Route 66 and he's taking a month to do it. Paul and his girlfriend Nancy Shevell left the Hamptons and plan to drive to Santa Monica in their Ford Bronco truck. They picked up Rte 66 in Illinois and will take it all the way across seven states. Instead of heading for fancy hotels, the couple plan to camp out and do a lot of sight-seeing like ordinary tourists. In the picture above he's taking a photo of Nancy in New Mexico.
