Bristish Airways Cancels All Flights

The great Christmas getaway crisis deepened today as BA announced that all domestic flights departing Heathrow tomorrow are to be cancelled.

Thousands of air travellers will be left stranded or severely delayed. And those who try to switch to trains will find them fully booked.

The fog which blanketed Heathrow grounded nearly half of British Airways short-haul flights, 223 in all. The airline has cancelled all domestic flights today as well as many European services.

Some 20,000 people were affected at Heathrow, with many bedding down in specially-erected marquees. The airline has urged those booked on cancelled flights today not to travel to the airport.

Executives decided to sacrifice domestic flights rather than long-haul services on the assumption that passengers could travel by road or rail.
