Tracy Chapman Is Gay?

Despite public speculation, Tracy Chapman has always been reluctant to talk about her sexuality with the media. It may be a moot point now that Alice Walker has spilled the beans about their relationship in the mid 1990s. Despite telling the reporter that she’d rather not discuss family affairs, in an article published December 15 in the U.K. paper The Guardian, the author of The Color Purple said of the relationship, “It was quiet to you maybe but that’s because you didn’t live in our area.” Walker says she wasn’t interested in making their affair public to promote gay rights. “I would never do that. My life is not to be somebody else’s impact—you know what I mean? And it was delicious and lovely and wonderful and I totally enjoyed it and I was completely in love with her but it was not anybody’s business but ours.” Well, until now. Walker said she plans one day to publish the journals she kept during the relationship.
