How Robyn Gibson lasted 29 years married to Mel Gibson is a miracle in itself. Basically, it's his drinking that broke them up. Almost every dumb or tasteless thing Gibson has done through the years involved his struggle with alcohol. But Robyn knew what she was getting into. Back when he was an unknown actor in Australia he used to get drunk at the local pub with his rowdy pals and the night usually ended with a fight in the parking lot with Mel in the middle. The bartender would phone Robyn and she'd pull up in her pickup truck and his friends would toss belligerent Mel into the back and she'd drive him home.
