Tom Cruise In A Bryan Singer Movie

After realizing that the purchased wife loves to go shopping, Tom Cruise decided to reconsider and accept a role which he turned down before so he can make money to pay for the wife's shopping expenses at Barneys.

Okay just kidding, mostly.

But Reuters reports:

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Tom Cruise is set to star in an untitled thriller based on an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler at the height of World War II.

Cruise had not intended to star in the project, which was acquired last week by his United Artists banner. However, during subsequent meetings, the project's director, Bryan Singer, became intrigued by the notion of Cruise as a central figure in the story and offered him the role. Cruise signed on Tuesday.

Next Superman Movie Has More Bad People

Michael Dougherty, co-writer of last year's Superman Returns, told SCI FI Wire that the upcoming sequel will feature at least one villain drawn from the DC Comics franchise. Or more than one? "Maybe," Dougherty said coyly in an interview on the set of his upcoming supernatural horror film Trick 'r Treat in Vancouver, Canada, on Jan. 15. "It's [Mr.] Myxyzptlk," he added, with tongue in cheek.

Dougherty said that it's likely he and his Superman Returns writing partner Dan Harris will again work with Singer on the sequel. "We're talking," Dougherty said. "We're bouncing ideas around with Bryan. Big ideas. Action-packed ideas."

Singer has said the next installment will be along the lines of the second Star Trek film, and Dougherty said the comparison is apt. "I think it's going to be a more action-oriented film," he said. "Again, the easy comparison to make was [X-Men] to X2, or Star Trek [The Motion Picture] to Star Trek II. I mean, I know that Bryan has said he's going to Wrath of Khan it, and by that he means, 'Let's take what we've already established—we've gotten that out of the way—and let's just make it shorter, tighter and more action-packed." —Patrick Lee, News Editor

Brandon Routh To Fly Again

Brandon Routh did a pretty bang-up job saving the world last time, so…he’s getting at least one more chance to do it again. The Superman Returns star told E! Online Thursday that he’ll be teaming up again with director Bryan Singer for a sequel due out sometime in 2009. "Well, they’ve publicized that Bryan had finished his deal, which was the lynchpin, I think, in the whole talk about a sequel, so everything looks to be heading that way," Routh said at the DVD and video game launch party for the film that turned the former soap opera actor into a brand name. "I’m certainly excited to do another one. I don’t think we’ll start for awhile since we have a 2009 release, but I’m excited about the potential.” In preparing for the role the first time around, Routh said that he wanted to make sure his 21st-century Superman was both a character of his own creation and an homage to the actors who have suited up before him. "I certainly looked at Christopher Reeve’s performance because he was my Superman, and I knew Superman from him and from watching him many, many times," the 27-year-old Iowa native said. "So definitely I took that energy and the spirit that he has from the character, because it was important that there be a familiar feeling for fans, for audiences to make that transition from watching him to watching this new person. "I definitely was aware of that. But I just knew within myself what it was I wanted to do—how I wanted to move, how I wanted to fly, speak, all of those things." Singer inked a deal with Warner Bros. late last month to produce and direct a sequel.

I heard Kevin Spacey is jumping with joy. He gets to play with Superman's toy again... Kevin and Bryan Singer will have to schedule playing time with Brandon when not shooting.

Superman Finds Love With Singer

Bryan Singer has signed to direct and produce a sequel to Superman Returns, Warner Bros. confirmed Monday.

Singer is the only person in place on a project that is more a notion still than a project. The studio said there is no script, no budget and no targeted release date.

Not even Superman Returns cape-wearer Brandon Routh is a lock for a return engagement, although Variety, which first reported the Singer signing, said Warners has an option on the actor for a sequel.
