The Brit Brit We Love

Hot off the press: Check out a just-released press snap of Britney Spears on the set of How I Met Your Mother.

In the episode airing May 12, Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Abby (Britney) realize that they have one thing in common — their mutual hatred of Ted (Josh Radnor) — and soon the “couple” decides to go to the bar to flaunt their new relationship in Ted’s face.

Brit Brit On HIMYM

It wasn't tough for Britney Spears to decide to reprise her role as ditzy receptionist Abby on CBS' How I Met Your Mother.

"I had such a great experience the last time I was on the show that I couldn't wait to come back," the singer said in a statement Monday. "I was really looking forward to working with this cast and crew again.

"Everyone was so nice," she added. "Abby is going to have a lot of fun!"

This time around, Spears' lovable but ditzy Abby no longer pines for Ted (Josh Radnor). She falls for Barney (Neil Patrick Harris).

According to a CBS release, the "couple" — who don matching V-neck baby blue sweaters — go to the show’s local hangout bar to "flaunt their new relationship in Ted's face."

To Out Or Not To Out

That was the question at the ninth annual Cracked Christmas comedy fundraiser for the Trevor Project, which operates a suicide prevention hotline for gay youth (866-488-7386).

Actors T.R. Knight (Grey's Anatomy) and Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser, M.D., How I Met Your Mother) made their first high-profile party appearances since coming out of the closet this fall.

Knight and Harris actually were nudged out of the closet by tabloids and websites, which has been a source of controversy.

"I was the first person to out quite a few people many years ago, and I'm very sorry that I did," said honoree Roseanne Barr, who featured many gay characters on her 1988-97 sitcom. "Several of them were very upset, but nowadays they're all big gay icons, so they can kiss my (butt)."

Outing is to be expected, some say.

"When you're in the public eye and want people to be curious about your life, people expect to know," Carmen Electra said.

Alexis Arquette, who is transgender, was outraged when Knight hurried by, refusing to do press interviews. Harris did the same. Upon exiting his car, he separated from boyfriend David Burtka, who sneaked inside the Wilshire Theater. Harris explained that his "highly paid PR firm" had advised him to "lay low for a while."

On stage, Knight and Harris made brief remarks and didn't address their personal lives.

"People like that are weak; it's pathetic," Arquette blasted, wishing for "a world where people didn't have that fear."

But Arquette's sister Patricia (NBC's Medium) was more sympathetic. "It's never easy to come out. It's a very brave thing. I was terrified for Alexis, with all the cruelty in the world, that he would be taunted, teased or beaten."

Sandra Bernhard believes that if closeted gays, particularly politicians, are "actively preventing gay rights and pretending to be something they're not, they deserve to be outed."

"Hopefully when celebrities come out, it will inspire other people to do so," said the evening's host, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy's Carson Kressley. He later said, "I've got to get busy welcoming Neil Patrick Harris and T.R. Knight to the gay community."

At the cocktail party afterward, Knight was in demand for photos. "Life was good before (coming out)," he said. "And life is good after."

Trevor Project

There’s nothing like a great gay Hollywood party—and it’s even better if the whole shindig goes to benefit a worthy cause. So we were thrilled that the Trevor Project (which runs the only nationwide 24-hour suicide prevention hotline for LGBT youths) had a packed house Sunday in Los Angeles for its annual Cracked Xmas benefit, which was hosted by Carson Kressley. Stars including Kristin Davis, Carmen Electra, Judith Light, Brittany Snow, John Goodman, Shawn Pyfrom, Nick Verreos, and Patricia and Alexis Arquette walked the red carpet, and T.R. Knight and Neil Patrick Harris made their first appearances at a major gay event since both disclosed they are gay. Lucy Lawless and Taylor Dayne got the house grooving, and Sandra Bernhard and Sarah Silverman had the place in hysterics—especially Silverman, when she joked about watching Brokeback Mountain with her man, Jimmy Kimmel. “My boyfriend had to cover his eyes during the sex scenes,” she told the crowd. “It’s not that he’s homophobic. It’s the only way he can come.” It was the perfect way to balance out the seriousness of the work the Trevor Project does, although we remained melancholy as the show marked the final event for executive director (and one of this year’s Out 100 honorees) Jorge Valencia, who is stepping down after nearly six years to run the Point Foundation. Roseanne Barr, recipient of the night’s Trevor Life Award, had this to say to all the struggling gay youths: “Stop feeling sorry for yourselves. Because I’m old…and I’m fat.” (Yes, she was making a joke.) But she went on to make this prediction: “Fat girls and gays is the definitive relationship of the new century.”

Doogie Howser MD is GAY!!!!!

In an interview with People magazine Friday, the How I Met Your Mother star, Neil Patrick Harris, happily confirmed that he is gay, contrary to what is rep issued days ago saying that the actor is "not of that persuasion."

First it was Lance Bass, then TR Knight of Grey's Anatomy and now Neil.

Is this then new trend now? Well, I hopefully wish more people will come out.

Not of that Persuasion

A publicist for actor Neil Patrick Harris has issued a statement following a report on Canada.com that Harris had helped his "longtime sweetheart" David Burtka land a role on the TV sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Here's the item that sent publicist pens aflutter:

"Nepotism is alive and well in Hollywood. Former Doogie Howser star Neil Patrick Harris, 33, recently got his longtime sweetheart David Burtka, 31, a guest role on his series How I Met Your Mother (airing Wednesday nights on CH). Burtka is an experienced theatre actor (he played opposite Bernadette Peters in Gypsy on Broadway and starred in the touring company of Beauty and the Beast) but also had small parts on episodes of The West Wing and Crossing Jordan."

The publicist reportedly claims of Harris: "He's not of that persuasion."

LOL!!!!!!! Hetero-flexible perhaps?
