Gay Hockey Players
In the ever-evolving arena of queer sports there seems to be a dearth of gay hockey players. Enter the Toronto Maple Leafs, one of hockey’s top teams, who have agreed to cooperate in the production of Breakfast With Scot, the coming-out story of a gay player, reports the Toronto Star. The National Hockey League recently approved the script, and the team’s consent will even allow the movie’s actors—including Tom Cavanagh—to don their uniforms. “On our end, we’re certainly not trying to make a statement,” said Leafs general manager John Ferguson. “We agreed to host them and we’re comfortable with it.” Team captain Mats Sundin was apparently “taken aback” by the notion of the movie, saying, “There’s never been a gay hockey player come-out that I know of.... I’m sure it’s going to be talked about.”
