Trainwrecks That Is Lindsay And Britney

I just learned that during one of the worst weeks of their young lives, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan made a connection!

A source close to the pop tart told me late Wednesday it was Spears who reached out to Lohan. After the ''Extra'' TV show caught Spears circling Lohan's lawyer Blair Berk's Los Angeles office, Britney decided to reach out to Lohan electronically. She tried text-messaging and calling Lohan on her cell phone, according to my source. When that didn't work, the singer called a couple of mutual friends -- finally getting a correct, current number for Lohan, who like many stars frequently changes her cell phone number and e-mail address.

As for what was discussed, my Spears snoop said, ''It really was mostly a lot of generic stuff. ... 'I understand what you're going through,' 'The press are such a------s!' ... stuff like that.

''They only talked about a minute or so.''

• Meanwhile, I understand the estrangement between Spears and her mother has worsened. Lynne Spears has been telling people, ''Britney's on her own now. She won't listen to me. I've given up.'' The senior Spears now is focusing on younger daughter Jamie Lynn's career.

• A further irony: After long rejecting her father, Jamie's, attempts to reconcile with her, Britney attempted earlier this week to reach out to her dad, but was rebuffed by him.

• Thanks to Spears' latest bizarre behavior, it's looking more likely that ex-husband Kevin Federline will be granted full custody of the couple's two children, with Britney getting only closely chaperoned visitation rights.
