Jonathan Rhys Meyers' Mom Is Dead

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been left devastated by the death of his beloved mother.

The Irish actor was seen drinking a can of strong cider as he walked in London yesterday (20.11.07) just hours after learning mum Geraldine, 50, had passed away in Ireland's Cork hospital.

A source said: "Jonathan was very close to his mother. He's absolutely devastated. You can't blame him for having a drink at this time."

Geraldine single-handedly raised the 'Match Point' star after his father walked out on three-year-old Jonathan, his mother and his brother Alan, taking the star's two elder brothers with him.

She had previously told how he was born prematurely and was lucky to survive, saying: "Doctors said he'd die."

Geraldine's death marks a terrible week for Jonathan.

On Sunday (18.11.07), he was arrested after a drunken row with airline staff.
