ABC On Fashion Budget For Shows

The network, home to highly wardrobed dramas such as “Dirty Sexy Money” and “Desperate Housewives,” has circulated a memo titled “new wardrobe guidelines” that outlines the “maximum allowable spend” for categories of clothing for each character.

No more than $150 may be spent on men’s or women’s accessories; no more than $250 on a pair of women’s shoes (only $200 for men’s shoes). Handbags should cap out at $300 and men’s suits at $1,500.

Desperate Housewive's Scavo Family 5 Years Later

Okay so I can't wait to see the new season of Desperate Housewives. So here's the family pic of the Scavo five years later.

FYI: Twins played the youngest daughter Penny before, now they're played by one girl. The older girl, Kayla, is no longer on the show. Preston and Porter are now 15/16 played by 20 year olds, Parker is 14 played by a 13 year old.

Desperate Housewives Apologizes

Makers of the hit US television series 'Desperate Housewives' have apologized for a slur against Filipino medical workers that caused uproar here.

The apology was sent to Philippine broadcaster ABS-CBN's bureau in the United States and aired here Thursday by its cable news channel, ANC, following protests by the Manila government.

"The producers of the show and ABC studios offer our sincere apology for any offence caused by the brief reference in the season premier," ANC quoted the statement as saying.

"There was no intent to disparage the integrity of any aspect of the medical community in the Philippines," it said.

The apology was made a day after President Gloria Arroyo's office said it considered a portion of the dialogue in an episode aired last weekend as a "racial slur."

The episode showed actress Teri Hatcher, who plays Susan Mayer, asking during a medical consultation to check "those diplomas because I want to make sure that they're not from some med school in the Philippines."

An online petition calling on the ABC to issue an apology quickly spread through the large Filipino expatriate community in the US, many of them in the medical profession.

In Manila, Arroyo's chief aide, Eduardo Ermita said: "On the face, we can look at it as a racial slur."

"We are looked down upon too much, considering the number of our medical professionals in the US," Ermita said.

ABC said it remained committed to present "sensitive and respectful images of all communities" featured in its programs.

Will Desperate Housewives Apologize?

Of course not given the fact that the Philippines is not really considered great in terms of marketshare..... but anyways,

The Philippine government is to seek an apology from the producers of the hit US television series "Desperate Housewives" for a racial slur against Filipino medics, the Philippine Daily Inquirer said on its web site Wednesday.

The officials cited a recent episode where actress Teri Hatcher, who plays Susan Mayer, asked whether the person attending to her during a medical consultation "can I check those diplomas because I want to make sure that they're not from some med school in the Philippines."

Asked if the government would seek an apology from the producers of the show, and ABC television network that carries it, executive secretary Eduardo Ermita said: "Yes, I think we should, on behalf of our Filipino professionals."

"On the face, we can look at it as a racial slur. We are looked down upon too much, considering the number of our medical professionals in the US," the Inquirer quoted Ermita as saying.

Ermita likewise appealed to civil society groups and other Filipino organisations in the US to "call the attention" of the show producers, and Hatcher, to the "racial slur."

Filipino consul in Los Angeles Mary Jo Bernardo Aragon wrote a letter of complaint to the ABC network saying that Filipino medical workers were in demand all over the world.

"The US recognises the students of Philippine medical and nursing schools and in general, does not require additional schooling in the US for Filipino healthcare professionals," she added.

Aragon also said many Americans go to the Philippines for medical services that they cannot afford at home, the foreign department said in a statement.

So why did the writer targeted the Philippines? Probably plain stupidity on his or her part... either that he or she is bitter for getting dumped by a Filipino. Be warned Mr. Writer, next time you or your family member need medical attention, I suggest you don't make your self known as the moron who wrote that line......

Can anyone tell me who writer is so I can give him his 15 minutes of fame?

Was Desperate Housewives Remark Racist?

I got an email from Rob Klaproth this morning that points to a scene in a recent episode of well-known TV show Desperate Housewives, which he and his Filipino boyfriend found offensive and racist.

In this particular scene, Susan Mayer Delfino, played by actress Teri Hatcher, is talking with her doctor (Nathan Fillion), which, I presume, is her OB-Gyn. She then tells him this line which marked the spot:

Okay, before we go any further, can I check those diplomas? Cause I would just like to make sure they are not from some med school in the Philippines.

Filipinos are talented and smart (but kinda stupid, yeah), and I can’t understand why a show like Desperate Housewives would stoop so low as to offhandedly throw an insult just like that. I know a couple of medical professionals who graduated in reputable medical schools in the Philippines. I know some medical students studying in “some med school in the Philippines.” They are all passionate and good doctors (but, mind you, I still disagree with the planned hospital holiday in private hospitals), so it escapes the mind why such a remark has been made, and what they think of the Filipino medical professionals in other countries.

I’ve never watched a single episode of Desperate Housewives, and right now, I’m glad that’s the case. I have quite a different taste when it comes to TV shows.

Here's the scene:

Hmmmmm.... interesting.... I found it actually funny.... I think the source of this is getting to be a bit overreacting....

Desperate Housewives Are Desperate

Marcia Cross, who is expecting twins in April, was put on immediate bed rest last week for the remainder of her pregnancy, TV Guide has learned. The doctor’s orders sent Desperate Housewives producers scrambling to wrap up Bree’s current story line, ultimately deciding that if Cross can’t come to the shoot, then the shoot will come to Cross.

At the end of this week, they will move the production of the show to the actress’ West Los Angeles home for two days. (Cross — whose TV alter ego isn’t pregnant — had only planned on taping two more shows after the Feb. 11 episode because it was becoming too difficult to hide her growing bump.) While Cross is resting upstairs in bed, the Housewives team will be downstairs transforming the home she moved into just months ago into a likeness of Bree’s orderly abode. "They are painting the walls, moving in props and furniture from the set…," says a source from the set. "They’re basically making Marcia’s house into Bree’s."
