Desperate Housewives Are Desperate

Marcia Cross, who is expecting twins in April, was put on immediate bed rest last week for the remainder of her pregnancy, TV Guide has learned. The doctor’s orders sent Desperate Housewives producers scrambling to wrap up Bree’s current story line, ultimately deciding that if Cross can’t come to the shoot, then the shoot will come to Cross.
At the end of this week, they will move the production of the show to the actress’ West Los Angeles home for two days. (Cross — whose TV alter ego isn’t pregnant — had only planned on taping two more shows after the Feb. 11 episode because it was becoming too difficult to hide her growing bump.) While Cross is resting upstairs in bed, the Housewives team will be downstairs transforming the home she moved into just months ago into a likeness of Bree’s orderly abode. "They are painting the walls, moving in props and furniture from the set…," says a source from the set. "They’re basically making Marcia’s house into Bree’s."

Gayness Of Golden Globe
OK, so it wasn’t a total wash, but this year’s Golden Globe nominations are several shades less pink than last year’s (which is only natural, given that last year’s contenders included Brokeback Mountain and Capote). Still there were some gay glimmers on the horizon. Out 100 2006 honoree Sarah Paulson was nominated for her role on TV’s Studio 60, which probably marks the first time a gay person has been nominated for playing a conservative Christian. Judi Dench got a nod for her lesbianesque role in Notes on a Scandal, and Chiwetel Ejiofor got a surprise supporting nom for his drag-a-licious part in the sleeper comedy Kinky Boots. Gay faves Dreamgirls (along with its stars BeyoncĂ©, Jennifer Hudson, and Eddie Murphy) got nominations, as did the gay-inclusive flicks The Devil Wears Prada and Little Miss Sunshine. On the TV front, Desperate Housewives (along with stars Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman) and Ugly Betty were standouts. But perhaps the gayest nomination of all goes to our favorite eyeliner-wearing pirate, Johnny Depp, for his turn in the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel.
