Katie Holmes has welcomed her new best friend Victoria Beckham to Los Angeles after Posh was spotted house-hunting in the area.

Tom Cruise's bride invited Posh to the exclusive Hollywood club Sunset Marquis, where she treated her to afternoon tea and insider gossip.

Katie, who received baby advice from Victoria during her pregnancy, also took along her eight-month-old daughter, Suri.

Now it was time for Katie, 27, to return the favour by giving Posh information of interest to anyone viewing properties in the area.

Also in tow was a waiter carrying a tray of drinks including a flask of tea, mineral water and champagne.

The get-together came amid mounting speculation that Tom Cruise, 44, may try to interest the Beckhams in scientology.

The former Spice Girl has been house-hunting in Los Angeles. One of those she viewed, a £7.5 million estate, is only five doors away from Mr and Mrs Cruise.

The news has fuelled reports that David Beckham may be about to quit Spain for the United States when his Real Madrid contract runs out at the end of the season.

He has said he would like to end his playing career in America, where he has set up a football academy.
