MJ Asked Brooke Shields To Marry Him

A teary Brooke Shields approached the podium at Michael Jackson’s public memorial in Los Angeles today and spoke about the unique friendship the two shared as 1980s megastars thrust into the spotlight at a young age. In the special Michael Jackson commemorative issue of Rolling Stone hitting stands this week, the model-actress reveals the King of Pop asked her to marry him — more than once.

She tells the upcoming Jackson tribute issue of Rolling Stone, "There were times when he would ask me to marry him, and I would say, 'You have me for the rest of your life, you don't need to marry me, I'm going to go on and do my own life and have my own marriage and my own kids, and you'll always have me.'

"I think it made him relax. He didn't want to lose things that meant something to him."

Shields says the innocent nature of the pair’s bond persisted as they grew older, “You saw women who were more sexual, who wanted to throw themselves at him and feel like they were going to teach him,” she recalls, “we just found each other, and we didn’t have to deal with our sexuality.”

Brooke Shields Remembers 'Asexual' Jackson Friendship

Brooke Shields was 13 when she first met Michael Jackson and the two "instantly became friends" _ mainly because sexual tension was off the table."Nothing was jaded about him," the 44-year-old actress told Rolling Stone magazine for a special commemorative issue about the King of Pop, on sale Friday.

Shields said the two became close since sexuality wasn't a part of their friendship. She describes her young self as "the most celebrated virgin ever" at a time when women "wanted to throw themselves at (Jackson) and feel like they were going to teach him."

Shields said that as Jackson grew up, "the more asexual he became to me." But he was curious about her early relationships.

"He was like a little kid who talked about the bases _ what first base was, what second base was," Shields said. "It sounded very odd to the outside, I can imagine, but to the inside, to someone who's never really left his bubble, you can understand how he would be curious."

Shields said she last saw Jackson in 1991, at Elizabeth Taylor's most recent wedding.

"We snuck in and took pictures of ourselves next to her dress," Shields recalled. "We always seemed to revert to being little kids."

How Some People Feels About The Death Of Michael J

The sudden death of Michael Jackson jolted his friends and family, a second blow to the entertainment world after it lost another icon, Farrah Fawcett, just hours earlier.

"I can't stop crying over the sad news," Madonna says. "I have always admired Michael Jackson. The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever! My heart goes out to his three children and other members of his family. God bless."

Lisa Marie Presley, who was briefly married to Jackson in the mid-1990s, says, "I am so very sad and confused with every emotion possible. I am heartbroken for his children, who I know were everything to him, and for his family. This is such a massive loss on so many levels, words fail me."

"My heart is overcome with sadness for the devastating loss of my true friend Michael," adds Brooke Shields, who raised eyebrows when she briefly dated Jackson. "He was an extraordinary friend, artist and contributor to the world. I join his family and his fans in celebrating his incredible life and mourning his untimely passing."

Elizabeth Taylor, one of Jackson's closest and longstanding friends, was "too devastated" to issue a statement, her rep says, while Quincy Jones, who produced Jackson's biggest hits, says, "I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news. For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words."

Britney Spears: "I was so excited to see his show in London," Spears said in a statement today. "We were going to be on tour in Europe at the same time and I was going to fly in to see him. He has been an inspiration throughout my entire life and I'm devastated he's gone!"

Justin Timberlake: "I can't find the words right now to express how deeply saddened I am by Michael's passing. "We have lost a genius and a true ambassador of not only Pop music but of all music. He has been an inspiration to multiple generations and I will always cherish the moments I shared with him on stage and all of the things I learned about music from him and the time we spent together. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones."

Whitney Houston: "I am full of grief."

Kiefer Sutherland Is Innocent

Kiefer Sutherland has denied any "wrongdoing" following his alleged assault of a fashion designer.

The '24' actor - who is accused of headbutting Proenza Schouler designer Jack McCollough and breaking his nose in New York last week - has released a statement via his attorney Michael C. Miller insisting he was not at fault.

Miller said: "We are troubled by the untruthful and self-serving information circulating regarding Kiefer Sutherland and events of last Monday evening (04.05.09). We are confident, however, that the investigation being conducted by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office and the NYPD will confirm that Kiefer Sutherland was neither the instigator nor a wrongdoer in this incident.

"Out of respect for this law enforcement process, Kiefer will not be making any comment."

It is alleged Kiefer, 42, and Jack began arguing after Jack knocked over actress Brooke Shields. Kiefer is said to have asked Jack to apologise, prompting the designer to push him.

Michael did not reveal which part of the claims Kiefer - who has been charged with misdemeanor assault and arraigned until June 22 - was denying.

Meanwhile, despite initially claiming she had nothing to do with the incident Brooke has released a statement stating she was "bumped into" by Jack.

It reads: "While at the party she was bumped into by Jack McCollough and Kiefer Sutherland became concerned. Kiefer has always been a gentleman in her company. Both Jack and Kiefer are friends of Ms. Shields and she regrets this unfortunate situation.

"A number of statements have been attributed to Ms. Shields in the media that are neither true nor authorised. These statements were obviously made by those who were not in attendance at the party and constitute their version of events."

Kiefer was jailed for 48 days in 2007 after pleading no contest to driving under the influence (DUI). He is still on probation in Los Angeles, with the city attorney there said to be liaising with officers in New York over the new allegations.

"Lipstick Jungle" Not Cancelled

Despite reports, Brooke Shields says her NBC drama Lipstick Jungle hasn't been scrapped.

"They thought that because My Own Worst Enemy has been shut down that the same thing had happened to us, and it's not true," she told reporters at Sunday's Kidsfest in NYC.

"They're not breaking down the sets," she added. "We’re still working. We still have more to do, so it's erroneously presented that we’ve been canceled, thank God.

"Our bosses are saying, 'You’re not canceled, don’t worry. We’re just trying to figure out how to make this make sense.'"

Shields said fans have already sent in tubes of lipstick to Jeff Zucker, president & CEO of NBC Universal, to show their support.

"It's been insane," she went on. "I think that the public outcry has been crazy, and it's kind of wonderful."

Is she optimistic for the show?

"I actually am," Shields said. "I mean, we're basically No. 1 if you look at DVR. And you look at all that. So the public is watching it.

"The problem that they have is it's not the same day live," she continued. "They just need to figure out how to reconcile advertisers' money because the advertisers don't want you fast forwarding commercials."

If the show gets canned, she said she'll be heartbroken.

"The family atmosphere and the excitement of being all together and working -- that’s the perk," she said. "I think they would be remiss if they decided not to continue next season."

Co-star Kim Raver (who also denied that the show's been canceled) said she would take the cancellation "really hard.

"The main thing is that me and Brooke and Lindsay [Price] have such a great time, not to sound corny," she said.

She added, "I think on Monday there are emergency meetings as to what's going to go on. But I know the executives are really pushing it and believe in it."
