Jessica Simpson is nursing a broken heart for the second time in two months after the desperately lonely 29-year-old singleton was shot down for a date by ex-husband Nick Lachey.

According to The National Enquirer’s “Gossip With Mike Walker” Column, Jessica was stunned speechless when the former 98 Degrees singer shot down her suggestion that they meet up for a drink before she left the country to begin filming her VH1 reality series, The Price of Beauty earlier this month.

Lachey parted ways with longtime girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo in June, while Simpson split from Dallas Cowboys star Tony Romo on the eve of her 29th birthday.

Enquirer spies describe the conversation between the phone conversation between the two as “awkward.”

“After about 15 minutes of pleasantries, Jessica finally got up the nerve to ask if they could get together for a drink,” a tattling tipster reveals.

“He was very to the point,” says the spy, “Jessica wasn’t prepared for it. He said he was sorry about her breakup with Tony, but getting together for a drink, dinner, or anything at all was not in the cards for him — now or ever.”

Jessica was crushed as Nick added, “It’s best to leave things as they are.”

...But if this is true, it just made me love Nick more... Just saying.

After Tony Romo callously dumped Jessica Simpson the night before her 29th birthday, he made sure his ex wouldn't be able to get near his Dallas home.

The new issue of Us Weekly, on stands now, reports the Dallas Cowboys quarterback instructed security to keep Simpson out of his gated community.

Still, Cowboy teammates were surprised.

"I thought they would...tie the knot," Terrell Owens, who slammed Simpson for being a "jinx," told Ryan Seacrest.

Meanwhile, Simpson has been working out again with a personal trainer in L.A. (she famously packed on pounds right before splitting from John Mayer and Nick Lachey), and going on movie dates with her mom and girlfriends.

Jessica And Nick Are Not Getting Back Together

Although Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, former spouses and stars of the reality show Newlyweds, now find themselves suddenly single at the same time, Lachey insists there is no reunion planned.

"I think it’s fun storytelling, but there's very little truth to any of it," the singer told PEOPLE at a party at Dusk at the Caesars Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City Saturday night. "I certainly have heard about her breakup and I wish her the best, as I’ve always done. Aside from that, there really is nothing to say."

So has he reached out to his ex-wife since her sudden split with Tony Romo? "I haven't talked to her in probably two years," Lachey says. "I wish her happiness. That’s where it pretty much ends."

As for his own recent breakup with girlfriend of three years, Vanessa Minnillo, Lachey doesn't seem to be too torn up over it. "I'm in a good place," he says. "I've learned, through years of not only being in this business, but being in relationships, that you have to take it as it goes. With every experience, you learn something about your life, and you try to take that and move on and be a better person because of it. We'll see what happens."

American football player Tony Romo reportedly visited Hollywood hotspot My House on January 16 - hours after the 28-year-old singer has flown out of Los Angeles - and then invited a group of people back to the home he shares with Jessica.

With the party in full swing, it is alleged Tony - who has been dating Jessica since November 2007 - disappeared upstairs with a stunning brunette for the rest of the evening.

A source told America's Star magazine: "Everyone was talking about it downstairs. The girls were saying it was so wrong and shady of Tony to cheat on Jessica - especially in her place! I just can't believe he would hook up with another woman at his own girlfriend's house."

Jessica Simpson has been slammed with a $10 million breach of contract lawsuit over an unreleased workout DVD.

In 2005, the singer filmed a exercise instructional for fitness company SpeedFit, but the shoot quickly took a humiliating turn when Jess allegedly turned up to the studio “tipsy.”

Her manager-father Joe reportedly refused to sign off on the project, preventing the SpeedFit boss Alex Astilean from releasing the DVD.

“Jessica was a mess during that shoot,” an insider revealed in an interview with Radaronline this week.

“They asked her to come back and re-shoot, but she refused, and that’s why she’s facing a lawsuit now.”

Finally, Jessica Simpson has had some luck at the box office ... in Russia.

On Oct. 9, her comedy Major Movie Star debuted at the top of the box office in the country.

The movie - about a bubble gum movie star who enlists in the U.S. Army because she is so broke - will premiere in Bulgaria next month.

So far there's no U.S. release date set and, as Fox News points out, nor is there one for any other country in which English is the primary language.

Simpson's other big screen effort, Blonde Ambition, went straight to DVD after having a run in just eight Texas theaters.
