Almodovar and Cruz Forever

Spanish auteur Pedro Almodovar will reteam with Penelope Cruz for his next project, according to reports.

The pair most recently collaborated on the acclaimed Volver and will make El Piel Que Habito (The Skin I Live In) together in the near future.

According to Variety, the project is a very loose adaptation of Thierry Jonquet's 1995 novel Mygale, about a plastic surgeon's vendetta against the men who have raped his daughter.

"My next film will be totally different from the previous sixteen," Almodovar told Spanish newspaper El Pais. "It's a very tough story about revenge. It has nothing to do with Volver or my life."

Remember "The English Patient"?

Producer Saul Zaentz on Thursday filed a $20 million lawsuit against Walt Disney Co. and its Miramax Films unit, accusing them of failing to share profits from his 1996 best picture Oscar winner "The English Patient."

"Like Enron, Tyco and WorldCom, Miramax has used fraudulent and unfair accounting and business practices to deprive (Saul Zaentz Co.) of its

profit participation," according to the suit, which was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Zaentz created a joint venture with Miramax to co-finance the picture and share in its profits, the suit states. Using inappropriate accounting practices, Miramax has attempted to show that it has yet to recoup costs associated with the acquisition, distribution and marketing of the film, it alleges.

Among the practices cited, the suit claims that Miramax listed as theatrical marketing expenses $34 million in marketing costs, even though "a significant portion" of those outlays actually were associated with a home video campaign for the title.

The suit sets production costs of "The English Patient" at $35 million and worldwide receipts at $100 million.

"Virgin Mary" Snubbed by the Vatican

Mary's pregnant, and it couldn't have come at a worse time. Tongues are wagging and she'll have to be a tough young woman to raise this child.

That's the ancient story -- and the modern one, too.

Keisha Castle-Hughes, the young actress of Maori descent who two years ago received a best-actress Oscar nomination for her role in the New Zealand-based film "Whale Rider," stars as Mary in "The Nativity Story." After the movie was completed, rumors about a possible pregnancy led Castle-Hughes to confirm in early October that she is, as biblical accounts would put it, "with child."

She's 16. The father is 19, a longtime boyfriend she met at school in Australia, where she now lives. They're not splitting up, but they're not immediately marrying, either.

Vatican officials were not as understanding. According to news reports, they are not thrilled to have the issue cloud their enjoyment of the movie. So Castle-Hughes was dropped from the invitation list for the Vatican's world premiere of the movie today.

Nicole Kidcome Gets The Big Bucks

Nicole Kidman was Hollywood's highest-paid actress in 2006, nudging America's sweetheart, Julia Roberts, from the top spot for the first time in five years, according to an annual showbiz earnings list.

Kidman's acting fee still falls short of the $20 million per movie earned by fellow Oscar winner Roberts, 39, before the "Erin Brockovich" star put her blockbuster film career on hold to marry and have children.

Send me some money hotness.

Heath Goes Commando

At a screening last week of his new film Hard Candy, Heath Ledger had no trouble laughing along with the audience when his character in the film tells his girlfriend he couldn’t turn gay tricks to support his heroin habit because "I wouldn't know what to do. [Gays] want muscle hunks. I'd be hopeless."

The movie "needs some comic relief,” he told audience members during a Q&A, according to New York Daily News gossips Rush and Molloy. Ledger also gamely took on a question from a gay man in the crowd who asked if the Aussie hunk was wearing underwear. "I'm going commando right now," Ledger teased.
